Addie Loretta Henry
July 31, 1933 - February 14, 2022
Addie Loretta Francis Henry passed away on the morning of February 14, 2022, at the age of 88. Addie was born on the farm in Casstown, OH on July 31, 1933, to Marion and Myrtle Francis. She was one of 11 children. Addie grew up in Casstown and attended school there. She graduated from their one-room school house, Lostcreek High School in May 1951. After graduating Addie married the love of her life, Ernest Henry on July 4, 1953, at the Lostcreek Congregational Christian Church in Miami County Ohio. They would have 3 children together, and Addie ran an energetic household. While running the household she also rented a house in Noble for 30 years. She rented this house with only a 1-page contract, no background check and just a handshake. Addie and Ernie also owned and ran a laundry mat business during their marriage for a couple of years. They also started a snack and drink vending machine business to help pay for Dianne’s college. Addie lived at 3832 SE 23rd St in Del City, Oklahoma with Ernie for 53 years. It was in this house that she took a political stand against the Del City Council regarding the massive street and home flooding in her area. Addie, with all her funny and creative skills, made large, wooden signs that she would post in her front yard addressing the flooding issues. This was a busy street corner, one block from Epperly Heights Elementary. This was her passive protest asking for improved drainage to address the dangerous flooding to protect the elementary school children and the property of the homeowners. Addie attended many of the Del City Hall meetings in person over the years and then watched them on TV. She would spend her time making many calls in support of different City Hall Councilors in her district. Addie was a great mom. She always supported her 3 children in wrestling, baseball, football, basketball and softball. She followed in her dad’s footsteps with carpentry in building many different shelves and bookcases. She sewed many outfits and made alterations for the whole family, including a wedding dress for Dianne. Every bead on the bodice was hand-sewn with 3 stitches, so they wouldn’t move, and glue was never used. Addie made her own Santa Claus suit and played Santa every Christmas. She was very creative in flower arranging, and she made the most perfect, same-size Buckeye candy (peanut butter balls covered in chocolate) every Christmas for family and friends. Addie had her dad’s sense of humor. She was one of the funniest people and had the wittiest jokes. She not only made signs for City Hall, but she made signs for everyone’s birthdays, graduations, celebrations, encouraging weight loss and the list goes on. Addie had a very close relationship with her older sister, Freida. Those two were partners in crime. What one didn’t think of, the other one did. They took vacations together, dressed up at Halloween, played pranks and jokes on family and friends. Both Aunt Freida and Addie would sew matching sweatshirts and shirts for the different seasons and holidays. And, there was the tradition of stealing a personal item from each of their homes when visiting, so they would have to return the next year to take the item back, and of course take a new item and wait for the other to figure out what they took. Addie is survived by her son Joe Henry and wife Terri; daughter Dianne Breslin and wife Kelly; 3 grandchildren Justin, Johnathun and Jenjer Henry; 3 great grandsons Isaac, Nathaniel and Tank; and many nieces and nephews. Addie was preceded in death by her loving husband Ernie; parents Marion and Myrtle Francis; son David Henry; and her 7 brothers Glen, John, Adrian, Bill, Leonard, Marion Jr. and Hartley also 3 sisters Fredia, Betty and Mary June. Addie was the last survivor of her nuclear family.
