April 30, 1929 - August 3, 2019
EVERETT LELAND HORTON April 30, 1929 – August 3, 2019 Everett Leland Horton, 90, was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2019. Visitation will be on Friday, August 9, 2019, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Ford Funeral Services, 305 South Sooner Road, Midwest City, Oklahoma. A memorial service honoring Leland’s life will be held August 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., at Sunnylane Family Church, 4221 SE 41st Street, Del City, Oklahoma, Pastor Frank Wiley officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Sunny Lane Cemetery, 4000 SE 29th Street, Del City, Oklahoma. Leland was born on April 30, 1929, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He married his best friend, Dollie Lorene Middleton, on November 22, 1950. Leland pastored churches in Missouri, Iowa, and Oklahoma, always with his wife and children by his side. He loved his family deeply, and perhaps his love was best seen in his devotion to his wife Dollie, whom he cared for throughout their lives together. Leland was proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed every opportunity to tease them and share bits of wisdom with them. He was a true renaissance man, finding new interests and learning something every day of his life. He never met a pun he didn’t like, found the best deals at garage sales and flea markets, loved a cup of coffee from Braum’s, taught himself to lay tile and brickwork, and could get lost in number crunching and calculating some geometric puzzle. But, above all, Leland loved to learn and teach others about his Savior, Jesus Christ. The lessons he imparted to his family are ones that will stay with them always, even as they learn to live without their dad and grandpa. He is preceded in death by his wife Dollie, who died just four and a half months before his death; after 68 years of marriage, he couldn’t bear to be without her. Also predeceasing him are his parents, Fred and Lula Horton, his grandson Kendall Pate, and seven siblings. He leaves behind the family he loved so well: son Robert and his wife Ann of Bryan, Texas, and their daughter Sara; daughter Nancy, and her husband Chuck Freeland of Sherrard, Illinois, and their children David (wife Stephanie and their sons Luke, Nathan, and Charles) and Lori Coffman (husband Jason and their daughters Sydney and Elyse); daughter Janet and her husband Gary Flowers of Jones, Oklahoma, and their children Bryan (son Tanner) and Kirk (wife Emily); daughter Beth LaFever of Moore, Oklahoma, and son Forrest Pate (wife Bethany) and Riley Pate (wife Bridgette); and his sister Joann Brandt of Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests and appreciates donations to two organizations that he loved so much: Sunnylane Family Church Children’s Ministry, 4221 SE 41st Street, Del City, OK 73115, and SHIP (SHIP International in Texas and El Salvador, Central America), P O Box 3003, Bryan, TX 77805, www.SHIPinternational.org.
