Joan ("Jo") Line Salathiel Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joan ("Jo") Line Salathiel was born on November 7, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois and died in Oklahoma City, her home of nearly 70 years, on May 22, 2022 after a brief illness. She grew up in Chicago and lived for a few years near her maternal grandparents, whom she adored. She loved the energy of the big city, and she especially loved to be the first child out on the sidewalks after a fresh snowfall in Wicker Park during Chicago's cold, snowy winters. As a child in the 1940s, and often by herself, she enjoyed riding the trains and buses around the city and exploring Chicago’s vibrant neighborhoods. In 1953 Jo moved to Oklahoma to live with her sister and brother-in-law. It was there she met her husband Max Salathiel whom she wed on June 26, 1954. She and Max raised two children in the country just outside of Oklahoma City living next to Max's parents. Jo's passion in life was taking care of her home and family, and while she was primarily a homemaker, she also held various secretarial and bookkeeping positions over the years. She was a self-taught pianist and guitarist, a prolific songwriter, and a wonderful vocalist. She particularly enjoyed jazz and loved playing music with family and friends. She very much treasured keeping an immaculate home and garden. Throughout her life she cared for countless pets, often taking in strays when she lived in the country, and she even fed birds and squirrels in her back yard during the winter months. Jo was preceded in death by her father Joseph Line, her mother Ann Miller, her husband Max Salathiel, her sister Iona McCormick, and her son Max Salathiel Jr. She is survived by her daughter Louann Stager, son-in-law Norm Stager and grandchildren Bryan Clinton, Christopher Clinton, and Amanda Clinton; her daughter-in-law Amphay Salathiel and grandchildren Anthony Hann, Amelia Hann, and Eric Salathiel, and her 5 great granddaughters Lillian Salathiel, Lauren Salathiel, Alexandra Slaieh, Maya Flores, and Adelena Flores; her niece Peggy Koone and nephew Bill “Skipper” Owens.
