Velma Avonne Mewhorter
January 16, 1924 - January 11, 2022
Velma Avonne Mewhorter, a wife, mother of three, grandmother to six, great-grandma to twelve, and a great-great grandma to three was an example of a God-fearing woman. She grieved a husband, two parents, two brothers & their spouses, and one daughter. As well as countless other loved ones among family and friends. Our long-time family joke was that she’d outlive every single one of us. However, I’m most certain she rejoiced four times as much as she might have grieved. I know there were countless hours laughing at a card table with her parents, siblings, cousins, nieces, kids and so forth. The puzzles she loved to try to stump us with every Christmas, ones she’d whip up on her typewriter. She was extensively well traveled with her circle, be it bus, train, or plane. She had the slide shows to prove it. Velma would have been 98 just five days after her passing and was celebrated by those of us that are still thriving. She tried her hardest to treat and love everyone the same. When she’d goof, she’d get flustered and eventually laugh at herself. She was known to always have a Bible open nearby. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
